PROFESSOR ERNEST O. ORJI.
Professor Ernest Okechukwu Orji graduated from
University of Nigeria Nsukka in 1990, Had his Postgraduate Fellowship Examinations of National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCOG 1999) and West African College of Surgeons (2000). He joined the services of Obafemi Awolowo University in September 2000 as Lecturer I in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynaecology & Perinatology and also Honorary Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, Complex ,Ile-Ife. By dint of hard work, effective and progressive research output , teaching and clinical services, he rose through the ranks to become Professor in 1st Octoer 2008. He is Unit Coordinator, Family Planning & Reproductive Health Unit of the Department. He was Head of Department from 2015 to 2018. He also co-teaches some courses in Department of Nursing, Faculty of Pharmacy and MPH Programme of the University. He is a Bill & Melinda Gates Scholar 2004. He also obtained certificates of training in Research Methods & Developments, Reproductive Health & Development from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, Baltimore , Maryland U.S.A.
He has successfully supervised Master’s Degree Students and over 20 Fellows of either Nigeria Postgraduate Medical College or West African College of Surgeons who are now Consultants both in Nigeria and International Community.
He has over 92 published research articles in reputable international and national peer-reviewed scientific journals..He is a member of many professional bodies which include Nigerian Medical Association, Nigerian Medical & Dental Association, Society of Obstetrics & Gynaecology of Nigeria, European Society of Contraception & Reproductive health, American Association for Advancement of Science, Member, National Association of Family Planning. He also coordinates Family planning programmes and policies in the MPH programme of the University. He gave the 268th Inaugural lecture of the University titled : Opening the womb of life: an adventure of an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist on 9th September 2014 .
